Silver Cups of Holly

This poem was written as an opening to a pagan group that I helped lead.  We were known as the Silver CUUPs of Hollywood.  Unfortunately, that group no longer exists.

The silver of the Lady

shining brightly within

guiding us ever higher

The holly of the Lord

forever growing within

grounding us in our lives

The cup of knowledge

pouring forth so that

we may aspire to learn

Apart we are separate beings

Together we strengthen

and nurture each other

May our love for the Lady and the Lord

create a bond between us

so that our lives will glow brighter and happier

Mommy Help!

Sarah’s home,
Sarah’s home
Hurray! She’s home!
Mommy, why is she crying?
Mommy, why is Sarah’s face black & blue?
Mommy, what is wrong?
Crash, smash
What was that sound?
Frozen with fear
Mommy, why did Jeff break the window?
Mommy, why is Jeff angry?
Mommy, what are those words he is saying?
Yelling, screaming
Everyone in chaos
Daddy defending the family
Mommy, where are we going?
Mommy, who is this lady?
Mommy, why are you leaving me?
Sirens screeching through the air
Ambulance, police cars
People swarming around
Mommy and daddy are coming back for me
Mommy, why is Jeff going with the policeman?
Mommy, what is going on?
I don’t understand.
I don’t understand.

Tides of Emotion

Ebbing and flowing

The emotions roll in

On a beautiful day, softly lapping at the shores of our heart

On the surface peaceful, glistening and shining

However, deeper and deeper you dive beneath

Darker and murkier

Mysterious and yet profound

Unknown lurking

Hidden until the storms rage

Tossing aside calmness

Whirling eddies

Drawing the sinking ship into the vast chasm

Deep within the salty waters

Paddling frantically

Trying to stay afloat

Zoloft becomes your life preserver

Clinging to sanity

Praying to be saved from the shipwreck

Treasures of the Heart

Treasures of the heart

Are ones that make you soar

Higher and higher

Flying into the heavens

Cares and worries far behind

Love, vitality, harmony

Making you whole

Making you free

Joining together

Merging

Intertwining

Growing together as one

Feeling the other’s soul

Inspiration

Enlightenment

Nirvana

Finally at last

You have found what you sought

Search no further

Deep within yourself

Is the beauty that will draw

Your butterfly to you

Flower Communion

This poem was written for the Flower Communion ceremony at the Unitarian Fellowship of South Florida.  The Flower Communion is a beautiful nondenominational ceremony that shows that singly we are pretty, but together we make up a beautiful bouquet that is unique.  You can find more information on the Flower Communion by visiting the UUA website.

Opening, Blossoming

Reaching towards the sun

Symbols of humanity

Similar, yet different

Each unique

But each equally beautiful

Everyone is a flower

Together we are a beautiful bouquet
